PowerDrive board

Comprising a controller board and two motor-drive boards, the PowerDrive suite uses the Future-Blox format to offer a time-saving proof-of-concept for various drive systems.

BLDC MOTOR-DRIVE BOARD
The PowerDrive 1 BLDC motor-drive board is based on the Smart Power Module (SPM™) and designed to accept the whole range of devices from Fairchild Semiconductor, and contains all the high-power circuitry and direct interface for 100W to 1kW BLDC motors.

• Brushless DC motor drive-board
• 600V, 10A 3-phase IGBT inverter bridge including control ICs for gate driving and protection
• Back-EMF sensing (3 phases) and zero-crossing detection
• Low-side IGBT shunt current sense (3 phases)
• DC bus over-voltage and over-current sensing
• Over-temperature sensing

ACI MOTOR-DRIVE BOARD
The PowerDrive 2 ACI motor-drive board utilises the range of International Rectifier’s IRAM™ Intelligent Power Modules, PFC and phase-current sensor devices, for use with ACI motors between 100W and 1kW.

• ACI motor-drive board
• 600V, 16A, 3-phase IGBT inverter bridge with control ICs for gate driving and protection
• Power factor correction
• DC-bus voltage sense
• Direct-phase current sense for two of the motor phase windings
• Shunt-phase current sense
• Over-current and over-temperature monitor

CONTROLLER BOARD
The generic PowerDrive motor-control Future-Blox Board uses Freescale Semiconductor’s MC56F8037 digital signal controller. Featuring a high-performance PWM, 12-bit ADCs and DACs and a wide range of communications interfaces, including I2C, SCI, QSPI and CAN, it is suitable for controlling all kinds of electric motor. Includes Freescale’s FreeMASTER application development software for ACI and BLDC motor control.

• Generic motor-control board
• Provision for encoder/Hall sensor feedback
• Provision for measuring bus and phase voltages and currents
• Accepts commands through local switches, digital I/O, analogue input or RS-232/RS-485 comms
• FreeMASTER PC-based application software
• Change the proportional and integral settings to modify the dynamic response of the motor drive
• Acquire, display and visualise the bus voltage, voltage output to motor and the motor RPM
• Allows the drive to be set up for different applications
