Flexibility and speed from triple 3A power module with I2C interface
As a triple 3A, fully integrated power module, the 16V MPM54313 from Monolithic Power Systems features an I2C interface, built-in power-on/-off sequencing control, configurable soft-start and loop compensation.
Ultra-fast transient response is provided by the constant-on-time (COT) control and the output voltage can be adjusted via the I2C bus or preset by the multiple-time programmable (MTP) memory. The sequence for power-on and power-off can be configured using the MTP, or controlled via the I2C bus online.
The I2C also offers accurate monitoring of output voltage, output current, and junction temperature, and enables selection of the pulse-frequency modulation (PFM) or pulse-width modulation (PWM) mode, and for adjusting the frequency.
Configurable active voltage positioning (AVP) in the MPM54313 power module generates a droop voltage which allows up to three outputs to be paralleled with passive current balancing. Active current balancing is provided when buck A and buck B operate in parallel for up to 6A in interleaving mode.
The provide full protection, the MPM54313 offers under-voltage lockout, over-current protection, over-voltage protection, and under-voltage protection, in addition to thermal shutdown.
To save board space, the MPM54313 needs minimal external components, and has a compact 8mm x 9mm x 2.58mm BGA package.
