Automotive-compliant shunt monitors enable accurate load and rail current measurement

The high-bandwidth ZXCT180Q and ZXCT181Q current monitors from Diodes Incorporated support rapid current measurement with small shunt resistors and low-voltage signals, while providing flexible design and layout options.

Diodes Incorporated has introduced the ZXCT18xQ series, expanding its range of automotive-compliant current shunt monitors, which provide a cost-effective solution for applications operating across a wide 26 V common-mode input-voltage range.

The ZXCT180Q supports unidirectional current-sensing, whereas the ZXCT181Q supports both bidirectional and unidirectional current-sensing.

The ZXCT18xQ output voltage is proportional to the load current, and has four fixed voltage-gain options of 20 V/V, 50 V/V, 100 V/V, and 200 V/V. The current monitor has two pin-out options, A and B, which provide flexibility for designers to optimize the PCB layout.

The ZXCT18xQ monitors support small-signal bandwidths as high as 400 kHz, and a high signal slew rate of 2 V/µs. These characteristics mean that the monitors can detect rapid changes in current, as well as quickly slew the output for applications that require a quick response to input-current changes.

The ZXCT180Q and ZXCT181Q measure a voltage across a series resistor at common-mode voltages from -0.3 V to 26 V, independent of the 2.7 V to 5.5 V supply-voltage range.
