Color sensor enables optimization of automotive display and lighting output
The Vishay VEML6046X00, a 16-bit digital light sensor module, provides accurate measurement of light intensity in the visible light spectrum and in the near infrared band.

The VEML6046X00 from Vishay is a digital light sensor which measures the intensity of red, green, blue and infrared ambient light, enabling the accurate control of light output in automotive applications such as display backlighting.
Housed in an opaque surface-mount 2.67 mm x 2.45 mm package which is just 0.6 mm high, the VEML6046X00 includes highly sensitive photodiodes, a low-noise amplifier, and a 16-bit ADC. Color measurements are supplied as 16-bit digital values via an I2C interface.
High resolution and a wide dynamic range mean that the sensor can measure the color of ambient light at levels from 0 lux to 176 klux at resolution down to 5.3 mlux.
Peak sensitivity in the red channel is at 600 nm, green at 550 nm, and blue at 470 nm. Peak IR sensitivity is at 820 nm.
