Strengthen industrial digital-signal links with dual-channel isolators

To provide reinforced signal isolation, high-speed data transfer, and strong noise immunity, the API782x dual-channel digital isolators from Diodes Incorporated deliver reliable signal transfer across isolation barriers.

Industrial control and power-conversion systems often need fast digital communication across a safety isolation barrier. This helps protect low-voltage control circuitry from high-voltage domains, ground shift, and electrical noise. The API782x dual-channel isolators transfer digital signals through a capacitive isolation barrier using an on-off keying (OOK) modulation scheme. Digital data are modulated with a high-frequency carrier on the transmitter side, then recovered by signal-processing circuitry on the receiver side.

The isolators support data rates up to 100Mb/s, making them suitable for high-speed control and communication links. The 5,700Vrms isolation rating under UL 1577 supports reinforced and basic isolation requirements in industrial equipment, power systems, and metering applications.

Low propagation delay supports timing-sensitive control loops. At 5V, propagation delay is 10ns, while pulse-width distortion remains 0.5ns, supporting clean digital signal transfer at high data rates.

The API7820 provides two channels in the same direction. The API7821 provides channels in opposite directions, allowing isolated communication between controllers, transceivers, or power-stage circuitry. Output default options give designers a choice of safe logic states during power-up, input-open, or unpowered input-side conditions. The API7820 and API7821 outputs default high, while API7820F and API7821F outputs default low.
