Secure wireless connectivity is becoming a core requirement in connected sensors, smart building controls, payment infrastructure, and industrial monitoring equipment. The STM32WBA62CIU6 wireless microcontroller unit (MCU) combines a 100MHz Arm® Cortex®-M33 core with TrustZone®, Bluetooth® LE, and IEEE 802.15.4 wireless connectivity in a single chip.
The 2.4GHz radio supports Matter, Thread, and Zigbee operation. Concurrent operation modes and packet traffic arbitration (PTA) help the MCU to manage coexistence in products that combine several wireless links. The STM32WBA62CIU6 is built around a trust-based security architecture (TBSA) and provides the foundation for secure boot, secure data storage, and secure firmware update.
Arm TrustZone enables hardware isolation between secure and non-secure application code. Securable I/Os, memories, and peripherals help engineers to separate sensitive firmware, keys, and services from the rest of the application.
The STM32WBA62CIU6 also supports secure firmware installation (SFI), using embedded root secure services (RSS) to protect code provisioning during production. A flexible life-cycle scheme combines read-out protection (RDP) with password-protected debug to help secure development, manufacturing, and field-maintenance workflows.
Cryptographic acceleration is provided by two Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) coprocessors, including one with differential power analysis (DPA) resistance. The MCU also integrates a DPA-resistant public key accelerator (PKA), hash accelerator, true random number generator, and hardware unique key (HUK) support. Active tamper detection adds another layer of protection for applications exposed to physical access. Internal monitoring can trigger secret data during attack conditions.
