Diagnostic protection from high-side power switch for safe smart factory automation
With output up to 2.5A, the IPS160H high-side switch can drive capacitive, resistive or inductive loads with one side connected to ground. The 60V operating voltage and on-resistance of 60mΩ are combined with extended diagnostic protection.
The diagnostic features make the IPS160H switch suitable for applications which need to address higher safety integrity levels (SIL).
Protection is integrated against over-load, over-temperature and open load. The overload and thermal shutdown protect the IPS160H and the load against electrical and thermal overstress. To minimize power dissipation when the output is shorted, a low-dissipative short-circuit protection cut-off limits the output average current and overheating of the switch. The cut-off delay time can be set by an external capacitor or disabled by a resistor.
The common diagnostic open drain pin reports the open load in off-state, over-load cutoff and thermal shutdown.
