16-channel LED driver offers 16-bit dimming and diagnostics for display backlights
The AL58263 from Diodes Incorporated provides advanced dimming technology which reduces distortion, resulting in higher picture quality in LED backlit LCD displays and other display types.
The AL58263 is a 16-channel constant-current LED driver which provides superior dimming and diagnostics capabilities for high picture quality and reliable operation in LED-backlit displays.
The AL58263 performs dimming with a 16-bit grayscale adaptive pulse density modulation (APDM) technique. This distinctive APDM technology reduces non-ideal output-current distortion caused by non-symmetric transient responses. It also enhances the display refresh rate by efficiently separating the frame waveform.
A fast 25 MHz data clock serial input supplies up to 55 mA to each string of LEDs. Each channel output current is individually programmable via a digital interface. The output currents are set by one external sensing resistor along with a 6-bit global current control register. The driver supports daisy-chaining of up to 1,440 devices and a maximum of 23,040 LED strings.
The AL58263 built-in diagnostics include LED open and short detection and protection. A log of errors is stored in the image-shift register for the host microcontroller to read.
