Combination microSD/nano SIM socket saves space in mobile product designs

The two KP15 series of connectors from Hirose feature an innovative configuration enabling convenient card removal from a mobile phone, while providing strong retention when a card is in use.

Hirose has introduced the KP15 series Micro SD™/Nano SIM combination card socket, which has a height of just 2.0 mm for use in small portable devices.

There are two types of connector in the KP15 series. The KP15B is a stacking combination socket for nano SIM and micro SD cards, which provides a robust and space-saving solution. The connector features a user-friendly card removal design: in a mobile phone, this permits the removal of the microSD card from the top, and the nano SIM from the bottom without removing the battery pack or the upper card. Furthermore, the user-friendly mechanism prevents the cards being inserted incorrectly in reverse.

The KP15TL series is a side-by-side combination socket providing various flexible usage options. The design permits the cards to be positioned in different layouts, with both a micro SD card and a nano SIM, or two nano SIMs.

The superior double-contact design protects the contacts from damage. The longer contacts reach the tray first so that the shorter contacts move smoothly as the card is inserted. No contact buckling will occur while the tray passes on the main contact.

Both the KP15B and KP15TL feature a card-detection switch for microSD and nano-SIM cards. The connectors feature a push-pull design, which ensures that when a card is accidentally pushed, the card does not fly out, creating a secure holding mechanism.
