Combined Wi-Fi and Bluetooth module enables Matter connectivity
The Type 2EL from Murata is a shielded, dual-band Wi-Fi® 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax and Bluetooth® 5.3 wireless module. The module is ideal for space- and power-constrained IoT devices.
The Murata Type 2EL is a small wireless module which provides a combination of Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, as well as an IEEE 802.15.4 radio.
Supplied in a shielded surface-mount package measuring just 7.7 mm x 8.8 mm x 1.3 mm, the Type 2EL facilitates integration into size- and power-sensitive applications such as IoT devices, handheld wireless systems, and gateways, and is ideal for connecting smart home devices to a Matter network.
The Type 2EL’s Bluetooth radio operates in basic rate, enhanced data rate and low energy modes, with a maximum data-transfer rate of 2 Mbits/s. The 802.15.4 dual-band 2.4 GHz/5 GHz Wi-Fi radio offers a maximum data rate of 601 Mbits/s, and supports an SDIO v3.0 DDR50 interface. The module, which is based on an IW612 chipset from NXP Semiconductors, complies with the specifications of the IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax standards.
The IW612 implements hardware mechanisms and algorithms for enhanced collaborative coexistence, which ensure that the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and 802.15.4 radios avoid interfering with each other.
Murata also supplies the similar Type 2DL Wi-Fi/Bluetooth module based on an NXP IW611 chipset.
