Discrete USB peripheral controller brings 5 Gbits/s USB to any system

The EZ-USB™ FX3 from Infineon provides broad standards compliance and flexible integration to reduce time-to-market for USB-connected systems. The chip is backed by a dedicated development kit.

The Infineon EZ-USB™ FX3 is a versatile USB 3.0 peripheral controller which enables the addition to any system of USB connectivity with a data-transfer rate of 5 Gbits/s. Using standard USB technologies, the EZ-USB FX3 enables OEMs to achieve fast time-to-market as well as to reduce the cost of implementing USB connectivity.

The EZ-USB FX3 operates as a companion chip to a processor, image sensor, FPGA, or ASIC, providing flexible USB capabilities, including:

  • Hi-Speed On-The-Go (HS-OTG) host and peripheral connectivity compliant with On‑The‑Go Supplement Version 2.0
  • USB 2.0 OTG
  • USB BC v1.1 for battery charging

For system integration, Infineon provides a second-generation general programmable interface (GPIF II) between a host and the EZ-USB FX3. Designers can configure the GPIF to operate like a FIFO, an asynchronous SRAM, an address-/data-multiplexed interface, a CompactFlash memory, or a proprietary interface.

The architecture of the EZ-USB FX3 provides for sophisticated control functionality via the fully accessible 32-bit, 200 MHz ARM9 core, and features 512 kbytes of embedded SRAM. The USB controller can also connect to external components via peripheral interfaces including I2C, I2S, UART and SPI, as well as GPIOs.
