Industry’s first asymmetrical TVS diodes for SiC MOSFET gate protection
The new SMFA series, which provides asymmetrical protection for the negative and positive voltage inputs to a silicon carbide (SiC) MOSFET gate drive, saves space and reduces component count in power-supply circuits.

Littelfuse has announced the SMFA series transient voltage suppression (TVS) diodes, the first asymmetrical TVS solution for protecting silicon carbide (SiC) MOSFET gates from over-voltage events.
Unlike traditional approaches which require multiple Zener or TVS diodes, the SMFA series protects against ringing and overshoot phenomena in gate-drive circuits using a single component, saving valuable PCB space and reducing the complexity of power-system designs.
The asymmetrical design of the SMFA series is tailored to the negative and positive gate-voltage ratings of SiC MOSFETs. The SMFA diodes are compatible with all available MOSFETs from Littelfuse and with SiC MOSFETs from other suppliers, making it a versatile solution for various applications.
The SMFA series TVS diodes are supplied in a surface-mount SOD-123FL package with a maximum height of 1.08 mm.
