Intelligent linearization from image sensor handles harsh bright and dark lighting
To handle dark regions and extreme bright light in the same image, the AR0822 sensor from onsemi produces quality images and 4K video at 60 frames-per-second (fps) by featuring an embedded high-dynamic range (eHDR).
Rather than outputting multiple HDR images, with different exposures, to an external processor for linearization, the eHDR of the AR0822 image sensor processes the multiple images on-chip. The eHDR uses intelligent on-chip linearization to enable the AR0822 to reach 120db, in addition to reducing motion artifacts and mitigating LED flicker.
The AR0822 is an 8MP stacked 1/1.8−inch, 8.81mm diagonal, back-side illuminated (BSI) CMOS digital image sensor which is based on a 2.0µm pixel. An active-pixel array of 3840 x 2160 enables the AR0822 to capture images in linear or eHDR modes at 120dB with a rolling-shutter readout.
The sophisticated camera functions offer binning, and windowing as well as video and
single frame modes. Up to three exposures can be combined on-chip and companded to a 12-bit HDR output, or provide line interleaved output of two exposures to support off-chip HDR in an image signal processor.
The AR0822 captures both continuous video and single frames to benefit applications such as security, drones, robotics, and vehicle dashboard cameras.
