New NFC reader combines high performance with appealing cost
STMicroelectronics has launched the ST25R200 NFC reader IC, which features advanced radio features to ensure reliable connectivity even in noisy environments. In low-power wake-up mode, the ST25R200 helps to extend battery run-time.
STMicroelectronics has launched the ST25R200, an NFC reader IC which provides a valuable combination of advanced features, robust communication, and affordability, making the implementation of contactless interaction in high-volume consumer and industrial products a more attractive proposition.
Combining high performance and reliability with low power consumption, the 24-pin 4 mm x 4 mm ST25R200 simplifies integration into products which require functions such as recognizing genuine accessories, ordering consumables, or monitoring device usage. High output power allows easy integration into products which have a small antenna.
The ST25R200 supports the NFC reader/writer mode. The reader has an excellent read range, and comes with an improved low-power card detection feature, increasing detection range in inductive wake-up mode. During this low-power wake-up mode, the system can detect the approach or the removal of tags. The IC contains an RC oscillator and programmable timer to automatically scan for cards or other NFC-enabled devices such as a smartwatch or a phone when in wake-up mode.
The high sensitivity of the device, supported by ST’s noise suppression receiver technology, allows successful reads even in noisy environments.
