New secure element provides turnkey security solution for devices connected to the cloud
The STSAFE-A120 from STMicroelectronics provides CC EAL5+-grade security for connected home and industrial products. Authentication functions and a unique identity enable devices to link securely to popular cloud computing services.
The new STSAFE-A120 secure element from STMicroelectronics offers the security functions required to authenticate a connected device and securely attach it to a remote server or to cloud computing services such as AWS or Microsoft Azure.
Running on a CC EAL5+ certified platform, the STSAFE-A120 comes with a rich feature set which ensures strong device authentication based on X509 certificates which are compatible with the Qi 2.0 wireless charging and Matter wireless networking specifications.
The chip capabilities include monitoring device usage, assisting in secure connection establishment via TLS, and safeguarding the integrity of the host platform. The STSAFE-A120 connects to a host microcontroller via an I2C interface.
Integration into secure system designs is eased by the availability of libraries which are compatible with STM32 and other general-purpose MCUs, and the STM32 Nucleo family of expansion boards. Designers using the STM32Cube software development ecosystem can also easily build the STSAFE-A120 into the development flow.
ST supplies STSAFE-A120 interfaces, drivers and source code examples for the Arduino family of system boards.
