Scalable low-power 32-bit MCU features integrated security for evolving designs

Helping to meet emerging regulations such as the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), the PIC32CM LS MCUs integrate scalable security, including the TrustFLEX key/secrets provisioning service in the Trust Platform Design Suite.

The PIC32CM LS00 MCU provides security features such as secure boot and Arm® TrustZone® technology and the PIC32CM LS60 integrates Arm TrustZone technology with the ECC608 secure element in one package and is supported by Trust Platform key provisioning services and Trust Platform Design Suite.

The secure element in the PIC32CM LS60 is a CryptoAuthentication™ secure element, a cryptographic co-processor with hardware-based secure key storage designed primarily for IoT, embedded, and authentication applications. Security features include asymmetric cryptography ECC, ECDSA, ECDH, symmetric cryptography AES, SHA-256, HMA, secure boot, secure firmware update, and TRNG. These enable developers to use one trusted source for a 32-bit MCU platform that helps to protect devices and end users against a wide range of known remote and physical attacks.

Featuring Arm® TrustZone® technology, the PIC32CM LS60 and PIC32CM LS00 MCUs provide a hardware-isolated execution environment for security-critical functions. The integrated Trust Platform secure sub-system further enables developers to implement industry-proven security practices and countermeasures.

Implementation of security functions on the PIC32CM LS60 MCU is supported by tools such as MPLAB® Code Configurator (MCC) TrustZone Manager, and IAR Embedded Trust, helping simplify the configuration of security features such as secure boot, key management, and firmware protection.

The PIC32CM LS60 integrates an enhanced peripheral touch controller, which prevents false touches caused by moisture and provides high immunity to noise. The MCU also features core-independent sleep mode peripherals. These peripherals keep the MCU core in sleep mode for extended periods to reduce power consumption.

The PIC32CM Lx family includes multiple variants to support different application needs, including:

  • PIC32CM LS60 secure with Trust Platform subsystem
  • PIC32CM LS00 TrustZone-enabled without secure subsystem
  • PIC32CM LE00 non-secure general-purpose
