Floating board-to-board connectors resist heat and vibration in automotive powertrains

The award-winning FX26 Series of floating board-to-board connectors from Hirose resist heat up to 140°C and vibration, when used to replace internal connections in automotive powertrains.

The unique floating structure means that the vibration which is part of the automotive operating environment does not cause contact failure. The connector floats within a range of ±0.7mm in X and Y directions, and the effective mating length is ±0.75mm in the Z direction. The FX25 connectors save space with a 1mm pitch and low height.

These small connectors are easy to assemble and offer multiple opportunities to combine the different mating heights of 15, 18, 20, 23 and 25mm. The unique design of the contact, and the materials which feature excellent thermal characteristics give the FX26 connectors durable and reliable operation in temperatures up to 140°C. The two-point contact design also enhances contact reliability.

The FX26 Series connectors are part of the FunctionMAX product family, and won the Vehicle Intelligence & Transportation category award at CES 2020 for innovation, in addition to receiving an award at the 16th Japan Printed Circuit Association (JPCA) show.
