Heat-resistant board-to-board and board-to-FPC connectors with longest mating length

With 16Gbps transmission, the DF40T Series board-to-board or board-to-flexible printed circuit (FPC) connectors from Hirose add the longest effective mating length to provide connection stability.

The DF40T Series combines a 0.4mm pitch, with stack heights from 1.5mm to 4mm, and resistance to temperature up to 125°C. The heat resistance is achieved with materials which include gold plating on the signal contacts to enable the connectors to withstand severe automotive conditions.

High contact reliability is provided by the design of the stamped contact which gives an effective mating length of 0.45mm, and the clear tactile click which confirms correct mating engagement. A depth of 3.38mm enables the DF40T connectors to reduce the mounting area and create additional board space. The guide ribs in the housing body enable a wide self-alignment range of ±0.33 in X and Y directions, which supports design flexibility and smoother mating.

To add further flexibility, the DF40TB connectors feature metal fittings at each corner of the connector to increase retention force on the board in addition to protecting the contacts from mechanical stress.

The DF40TC connector does not integrate metal fittings, but encloses the contacts in the housing without gaps to protect against solder waste and flux. A nickel barrier area near the contact termination area is designed to prevent solder wicking, and the large pick-up area makes the DF40TC suitable for automatic mounting.

The DF40GT Series adds EMI prevention by featuring a shield plate on the receptacle side, which reduces the magnetic field by 18.5dB μA/m. A reliable and strong ground design means that the contact area between the shield plate and retention tabs is placed at the four corners of the contact.
