New aluminum polymer solid capacitors offer extended life at high temperature

The OS-CON™ SXV, SXE, and SVPG series capacitors from Panasonic provide superior durability, low ESR, high ripple-current capability, and increased capacitance, giving higher value in industrial power supplies.

Panasonic has announced the expansion of its OS-CON family of aluminum polymer solid capacitors, introducing new product series which offer longer life and higher efficiency. The latest members of the OS-CON product line-up, the SXV, SXE, and SVPG series, are intended for use in industrial surface-mount and radial-lead applications.

The surface-mount OS-CON SXV and radial-lead SXE series capacitors feature very low ESR even at low temperatures. In addition, both capacitor series boast high-temperature endurance of 1,000 hours at 125°C, and operate in a wide voltage range of 63 V to 100 V. 

Benefiting from enhancements to the aluminum foil, these capacitors offer a capacitance increase of up to 20% compared to competitors in the conductive polymer aluminum solid capacitor category, enabling higher-density mounting. 

Complementing the SXV and SXE series, the OS-CON SVPG series capacitors are available in 20 V and 25 V ratings, and offer endurance of 5,000 hours at 105°C. The extended voltage range makes the SVPG capacitors ideal for smoothing 12 V to 15 V power lines that require high ripple-current capability. 

The SVPG series provides low ESR and high ripple-current handling, achieving an average ripple current increase of 1.37 times compared to competitors.


Applications newly supported by the OS-CON family include high-performance, high-density power supplies in servers and base stations. Here, the SXV/SXE series extension is suitable for 48 V line smoothing, an application which calls for high capacitance and low ESR.

In response to the evolution of designs for power circuits in data centers, the SVPG series now includes products with withstand voltages ranging from 20 V to 25 V. In data centers, the SVPG series is ideal for dc-dc conversion operating from a 12 V supply, providing low ESR, high ripple-current capability, and a high voltage rating up to 25 V.
