New NFC reader combines high performance with attractive cost
STMicroelectronics has launched the ST25R100 NFC reader IC, which implements various power management modes to enable energy savings in battery-powered applications. The compact package fits in highly space-constrained products.
STMicroelectronics has launched the ST25R100, an NFC reader IC which provides a unique combination of advanced features, robust communication, and affordability, making the implementation of contactless interaction in high-volume consumer and industrial applications a more attractive proposition.
Combining high performance and reliability with low power consumption, the 24-pin 4 mm x 4 mm ST25R100 simplifies integration into products which require functions such as recognizing genuine accessories, ordering consumables, or monitoring device usage.
The ST25R100 ensures strong and reliable wireless connections even in space-constrained applications that only have space for a very small antenna. In addition, the ST25R100 features a new and enhanced low-power card detection feature. This greatly extends the detection range and gives a better user experience.
The ST25R100 integrates an advanced analogue front end and a data-framing system which supports the standard NFC card reading specifications, NFC-A/B (ISO 14443A/B, up to 106 kbits/s) and NFC-V (ISO 15693, up to 53 kbits/s).
Multiple operating modes assist power management by allowing the current to be reduced to as little as 1.2 µA, for longer run-time in battery-powered applications. There is also a reset mode in which the ST25R100 draws just 0.12 µA.
