NFC reader improves charging, payment, and access-control reliability
For NFC charging, payment terminals, and access-control systems, the ST25R300 NFC reader from STMicroelectronics combines high RF output power, long-range wake-up, and noise-resistant reception.
Reliable field generation and robust reception are central to NFC charging, payment, and access-control designs, where the antenna may sit behind metalwork, plastic, or noisy displays. The ST25R300 NFC reader supports NFC initiator, NFC target, reader, and card-emulation modes, so one design can cover charging, authentication, and tag interaction tasks.
Designed for EMVCo® proximity coupling device (PCD) 3.2a analog and digital compliance, the ST25R300 helps engineers to shorten certification work in contactless payment terminals. The analog front end (AFE) supports operation where an antenna sits behind a noisy liquid crystal display (LCD), a common constraint in modern point-of-sale terminals.
High radio frequency (RF) output power and dynamic power output (DPO) let the NFC reader drive antennas efficiently while keeping field strength within required limits. Active wave shaping (AWS) helps to reduce signal overshoot and undershoot, supporting monotonicity requirements in EMVCo and NFC Forum testing.
The noise suppression receiver (NSR) improves reception in electrically noisy environments, including payment terminals with display noise or disturbance on supply lines. Automatic antenna tuning (AAT) helps to compensate for changes in antenna size, enclosure material, or coupling conditions across end-equipment designs. For NFC wireless charging (WLC), the same analog performance supports poller functions used by wireless chargers and WPC Qi out-of-band (OOB) communication.
