In the surface-mountable ITV4030 three-terminal battery protector, the integrated fuse element is able to cut off the circuit when over-current is detected. Below the fuse element, there is an integrated heater which generates heat to blow the fuse when over-voltage is detected by an IC or FET.
The ability of the ITV4030 fuse to act as a surge suppressor protects the rechargeable batteries from irreparable damage which can be caused to the battery during over-charging.
The small size and low profile of the fuse benefits size-limited applications such as power tools, laptops, and robotic vacuum cleaners.
Rated to handle 12A current, the ITV4030L0412NR features one cell, and the ITV4030L0415NR fuse also integrates one cell but is rated to handle 15A current. With two cells in series, ITV4030L0812NR handles 12A. Other ITV4030 fuses integrate up to 6 cells in series with a 15A current, and 22A current with up to 5 cells in series.
