Vertical-mount wire-to-board connector saves board space

The DF61Y from Hirose, which has a maximum current rating of 4 A for use in power supply circuits, offers a range of features which ensure high connector performance and strong termination.

The new DF61Y series of wire-to-board connectors from Hirose saves board space in the power connections in small portable devices.

The vertical mating configuration of the connector occupies a smaller area of the board than a horizontal mating design, giving designers greater freedom to optimize the board layout in space-constrained systems.

Despite its small size and a 2.2 mm contact pitch, the DF61Y can withstand voltages up to 350 V thanks to its long creepage distance. This is achieved by the provision of a housing wall between the contacts to keep them separate.

The use of highly conductive material for the socket contact and optimized contact force have the effect of lowering contact resistance, to give high connection performance. In addition, the DF61Y lance structure prevents contacts from pulling loose during cable wiring, increasing the connector reliability.

A valuable feature of the DF61Y series is its vertical-insertion swing-extraction (ViSe) lock structure. The ViSe lock is robust and easy to operate. When mating, it provides a clear tactile click. The connector has both a positive and a friction lock: while the positive lock increases the retention force to 18.3 N, the friction lock prevents the connector from floating after mating, ensuring a robust and reliable connection.

The DF61Y is part of the SnapBee™ product family, which consists of compact and high-performance wire-to-board connectors designed for the requirements of industrial applications.
