Compact current sense resistors achieve high reliability

The Panasonic ERJ series of chip resistors performs accurate current sensing in intelligent sensing, LED lighting, and other space-constrained, high-power designs that demand thermal stability.

The ERJ series of thick-film chip resistors from Panasonic provides a wide range of options for design engineers requiring accurate current measurements and power ratings up to 2 W.

The AEC-Q200-qualified ERJ current sense resistors are available with standard-size terminals in sizes from 0402 to 2512. Wide-terminal versions are in case sizes from 0612 to 1020. All of the resistors provide for high solder joint reliability, thanks to a structure which features soft terminations.

The ERJ series resistors, which are optimized for high-power applications, feature a novel structure composed of double-sided resistive elements, the effect of which is to suppress the temperature rise typically associated with shunt resistors.

Two of the current sense resistors, the ERJ6CW in an 0805 case and the ERJ8CW in a 1206, offer a particularly low temperature coefficient of resistance of ±75 x ppm/K.
