The RTK-251-SinkCharger-RAA489118 from Renesas is a single-port reference design for implementing battery systems with from two to seven lithium-ion battery cells connected in series. It supports two modes: in one, power is supplied solely from the USB Type-C® port; in the other, it enables a power bank function in combination with a li-ion battery with a battery management system (BMS).

Due to losses in the cable, onboard charger, and board, the USB Power Delivery (PD) controller requires appropriate USB Type-C input levels from the USB Type-C source device to operate the battery system effectively. Switches on this evaluation board allow the selection of the number of batteries in series and the charging current.

The firmware for this evaluation board is generated using an instruction tool called VIDWriter.
