The use of EMI filters and ESD transient voltage suppression (TVS) devices is a response to the risk that electrical events might impair or even destroy a circuit. There is another risk to consider as well: the risk that the filter or TVS device designed into a circuit could become obsolete or unavailable, requiring a costly and time-consuming board redesign.
This heightens the appeal of the STMicroelectronics portfolio of EMI filters and ESD protection devices. ST, which supplies a broad range of these products to protect almost every kind of interface in a system, is a giant in semiconductor manufacturing, and so has the capacity to produce these devices in very high volume.
And to allay any fears about the supply chain in the long term, ST has certified a selection of its protection and filter devices for inclusion in its 10-year longevity commitment program. This program enables customers to protect their design investments by guaranteeing that the selected devices are available for a minimum of 10 years starting from the notification date.
So once an ST EMI filter or TVS device is designed in, it can stay on the bill-of-materials, easing OEMs’ concerns over supply chain stability.
ST protection and filter devices under the 10-year program cover many interface types, including:
- USB Type-C
- CAN
- KNX
- HDMI
- Ethernet
- Microphone/speaker
- SD memory card
- I2C
- IO Link
These products are available in a range of housing styles, from axial cases to small 01005 packages. For more information about the parts featured in the longevity commitment program, contact your local Future Electronics branch.
